Secret is out: Wal-Mart to start selling iPhone

Apple Inc. 's famous veil of secrecy seems to have stretched thin in trying to thousands and thousands of Wal-Mart Stores.

A Wal-Mart employees in Uniondale, NY, told the Associated Press on Monday that the store starts selling Apple's iPhone, confirmed media reports over the weekend.

The employee, who does not give his name, not knowing when the phones would be in the sale, and said that the company still is not a commodity. The San Jose Mercury News reported Friday that store employees in California said the phone would be on sale at the last week of December, and perhaps before Christmas.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the second independent retail chain Best Buy Inc. to sell the phone. The phone is also sells Apple and AT & T Inc. stores.

Wal-Mart spokeswoman said Anna Taylor, the company had no announcement about iPhone sales. Apple speaker Cher Steve Dowling had no comment.

From the introduction of the second generation iPhone on July 11 until the end of September, Apple sold 6.9 million units, making it one of the world's most popular mobile phones.
